Our Leaders

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), founded on September 1, 1978, by President Ziaur Rahman, is a leading political force centered on "Bangladeshi Nationalism." For decades, it was led by his widow, Begum Khaleda Zia, the country's first female Prime Minister. Following her passing on December 30, 2025, the party entered a new era. On January 9, 2026, her son Tarique Rahman was formally appointed as Chairperson after returning from a 17-year exile.

The BNP aims to establish a strong and inclusive democracy, promote national economic liberation, and foster self-reliance. The party has won several national elections and played a significant role in shaping Bangladesh's political landscape.

Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman

A military officer who later became the President of Bangladesh. He founded the BNP in the late 1970s and led it until his assassination in 1981.

Late Begum Khaleda Zia

A former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She led the BNP for many years, taking over after her husband's death. She passed away on December 30, 2025, leaving a legacy as an "uncompromising leader" for national sovereignty.

Chairman Tarique Rahman

The son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. He is the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), formally assuming the role on January 9, 2026, following the passing of his mother, Begum Khaleda Zia.
